Envirokid
Hi I am Tessa the founder and Designer behind Envirokid. I have a degree in product design and 10 years in the retail design industry. After having my son Sam in 2019 and experiencing a global pandemic in 2020, I suddenly saw the need for beautifully designed toys to be manufactured here in South Africa. So much of what we purchase is designed and manufactured in foreign countries but now more than ever we need to keep things local and try employ and support as many fellow South Africans as possible.
Sam was diagnosed with Cystic fibrosis at 7 months, a life shortening genetic disease that affects the lungs and pancreas among other organs. Receiving a life changing diagnosis like this has been a big factor in growing my own business and developing products that give him the best childhood possible.
At Envirokid we take pride in making high quality, modern, beautifully designed baby and children’s toys that encourage creative and outdoor play. We like to include a fun educational element in all our products to make learning about nature, skills and new traditions exciting from a young age. Envirokid is Proudly South African, all our products are locally manufactured in Cape Town. We try our best to use raw environmentally conscious materials as far as possible, combining woods, leathers and steels together to create durable products that are made to last.
Being lucky enough to have attended a Rudolf Steiner Waldorf school I understand the value of encouraging creative, outdoor and imaginative play especially in younger children. I hope my designs can inspire creativity and curiosity in young minds.
