Villiera Wines: A Legacy of Excellence and Sustainability

Villiera Wines, has firmly established itself as a leader in the production of Cap Classique and still wines. With roots stretching back to 1984, Villiera has been a pioneer in the Cap Classique category, bringing excitement and recognition to bottle-fermented wines in South Africa. Their commitment to quality and innovation has not only set them apart but has also garnered them numerous prestigious awards.

Pioneering Cap Classique

Villiera’s journey into the world of Cap Classique began 40 years ago, with the production of their first bottle-fermented wine. Since then, they have continued to innovate, pushing the boundaries of what is possible with Cap Classique. This dedication has resulted in a series of award-winning wines that are celebrated for their finesse, complexity, and reflection of Villiera’s unique terroir. The vineyards benefit from the diverse soils and microclimates of the Stellenbosch region, imparting distinct characteristics to the grapes that are meticulously crafted into Cap Classique.

A Diverse Portfolio of Excellence

While Villiera is renowned for its Cap Classique, their portfolio of still wines is equally impressive. Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon are some of the varietals that stand out, each embodying the essence of Villiera’s terroir. These wines consistently earn accolades, reflecting the winery’s commitment to excellence and consistency.

Sustainability at the Core

Sustainability is the cornerstone of Villiera’s philosophy. Understanding the importance of preserving the environment for future generations, Villiera has integrated sustainable practices across all facets of their operations. This commitment is evident in their vineyard management, where natural pest control methods are employed to maintain soil health and biodiversity.

Villiera’s dedication to sustainability extends beyond the vineyard. The winery has implemented energy-efficient technologies and water conservation measures, significantly reducing their environmental footprint. These practices ensure that Villiera’s wines are not only exceptional in quality but also produced in an eco-friendly manner.

Conservation and Social Responsibility

Villiera’s sustainability efforts are complemented by a strong focus on conservation and social responsibility.  A wildlife sanctuary was established in 2009. In conjunction with two neighbours, a total of 220ha of land was set aside to form the Villiera Wildlife Sanctuary, providing a haven for a variety of indigenous species.  Visitors can enjoy a game drive experience through this sanctuary.

Social responsibility is another key pillar of Villiera’s ethos. The winery is actively involved in the local community, supporting education and healthcare initiatives. Their involvement in the Pebbles Project, which focuses on enriching the lives of children and families in the Winelands farming communities, is a testament to their holistic approach to business.

Celebrating 40 Years of Cap Classique

This year marks a significant milestone for Villiera Wines as they celebrate 40 years of producing Cap Classique. Over the past four decades, Villiera has played a pivotal role in elevating the status of South African sparkling wines on the global stage. To celebrate this special milestone, the Grier family created Pithos, a meticulously crafted Cap Classique packaged in an iconic bottle. The finest Chardonnay juice from their premier vineyard block was fermented in a traditional clay vessel called a “Pithos”, then aged on lees post-second fermentation. This Cap Classique reveals a rich, creamy, and nuanced profile, a testament to Villiera’s commitment to honouring tradition while pushing boundaries for the future.

Conclusion

In every bottle of Villiera wine, there is a story of passion, innovation, and a deep respect for nature. Villiera Wines invites wine enthusiasts to join them in celebrating their rich heritage and to experience the magic of their Cap Classique and still wines.
